Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s well-being, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously. The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care addresses the skills and knowledge required to provide care for individuals and groups of children, and to plan activities facilitating their leisure and play, enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.

Learners may be:

  • Existing childcare workers wanting to increase their formal care skills and knowledge as they relate to their area of employment

  • Persons seeking a career change to work with children and babies

  • Unemployed persons seeking employment in child care in particular within childcare facilities


  • Students must be 18 years of age on commencement of the course
  • A minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent  with no band being lower than 5.0 or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of Australian Year 12 (or equivalent)
  • Student must obtain a ‘Working with Children Check’ prior to commencing the placement.


Students will need to be reasonably physically fit to undertake the work placement as the tasks and activities associated with the work placement may involve manual lifting and other physical activities.


The course will give you the skills to communicate and work collaboratively with educators and colleagues, as well as to support the holistic well-being, health and safety of all children.

You will master the skills that you need to effectively help children learn and become confident and involved learners. During your studies, you will also learn how to support children with behavioral issues.


You will find this course useful if you want to become a nanny, family daycare educator or operate a child minding service in a recreation centre or gym.

Classroom based delivery [Face-to-Face].


Assessment methods vary and may include written assignments, knowledge tests, research tasks, projects, case studies, observations, practical tasks and role plays/demonstrations .


During the course you are required to complete a minimum of 240 hours of work placement in a licensed and registered early childhood service. Students can find their own placement. Mint Training and the Host Employer must have an agreement before the placement can be commenced.

Mint Training may assist students to secure a work placement.

During your placement a Mint Training assessor will visit you on a number of occasions to observe you performing some of your tasks.

Please Note: There are a number of statutory checks required by workplaces, such as a Working with Children Check and/or Police Checks. Consult the table on the Australian Government website for regulations.


  • Students are required to bring a note-pad to every training session and may bring their own Laptop / Computer Tablet.
  • Mint Training will provide you with all other resources such as Wi-Fi internet connection and are included in the course fee.
  • Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for work-placement (such as closed shoes, shirts, pants – please do NOT wear t-shirts, jeans and other fancy clothing).


RPL allows students to gain recognition of skills and knowledge they have achieved through on the job training, formal or informal education and life experience. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. A comprehensive RPL assessment tool will need to be completed and each unit will be addressed individually.

Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen qualification by taking into account previous studies. Mint Training recognises Australian registered training organisations for credit transfers. Credit Transfers will be granted upon the receipt of sufficient evidence to support the application.
